When we think of the most impressive skyscrapers, images of the great metropolises come to mind. London, New York, Shanghai or Dubai are some of the cities known for their majestic buildings.  Now, Zanzibar intends to join this select group with a spectacular skyscraper.

Known worldwide for its natural heritage, this region is preparing to host a renowned architectural work. Located on the coast of Tanzania, a domino-shaped tower will be erected on a small island to become an international tourist attraction. According to the communiqué released by the company responsible for the project, this complex will integrate entertainment and culture.

With a total of 70 levels, the building is planned to be built in the old part of the city. Influenced by various cultures, this place has a lot of historical relevance for the inhabitants of Zanzibar. It is a 370-square-kilometer project that seeks to stand out in the history of modern architecture.

xCassia, the company behind the design, has been pursuing the project for more than a decade. However, for various reasons the project has been delayed. The Domino Tower provides the illusion that it is an arrangement of dominoes about to fall. The complex starts with a tall façade that gradually slopes becoming smaller as the construction curves and rolls in on itself.

As far as is known, the complex will be divided into three main zones. The Arrival Plaza, the Zanzibar Domino and the Island Resort. As the name suggests, visitors will enter through the Arrival Plaza and from there the main path will lead to the commercial and office areas.

The Zanzibar Domino, the main attraction, will be located on an artificial island with an estimated radius of 250 meters. Among the attractions available will be an aquarium, a convention center, an exhibition area and the cultural pavilion. As if that were not enough, the facility will have the capacity to receive yachts, and offer both commercial and restaurant areas.

Domino Tower is an ambitious project that foresees the construction of 560 apartments and a 360-room hotel, all overlooking the Zanzibar coast. The icing on the cake is an observation deck at the top of the tower. Even better: visitors will be able to get there via elevators offering a panoramic view.

Meanwhile, the Island Resort will integrate 104 villas connected to a lighthouse that will serve as a transportation hub. This will allow guests to go to a gym, golf course, heliport or a small chapel where weddings will be held.

"Positioned among Africa's leading international tourism, entertainment, cultural and conference destinations, the Zanzibar Domino will provide visitors, residents and businesses with a multi-faceted program designed to promote distinct year-round experiences, career pathways and investment opportunities," said Youssef S. Amour, executive chairman of AICL Group, one of the consortia behind the project.

The project is part of Zanzibar's strategy to develop new tourist attractions. The term "blue economy" encompasses the strategy to attract international investment by promoting the privileged location of this autonomous zone in the Indian Ocean. The project will have an estimated cost of US$ 1.3 billion.
