"Upgrading the RAM" of some Samsung phones is now possible with an update
Samsung has joined the mobile virtual memory craze with a new feature called "RAM Plus".
RAM Plus is a software upgrade that, for all practical purposes, expands the amount of RAM available on the phone by making use of a portion of the ROM memory, which is normally used for storage.
According to SamMobile, RAM Plus has been implemented first on the new Galaxy A52s 5G, starting with those in India. The feature, which comes in firmware update A528BXXU1AUH9, allows you to add up to 4GB of virtual memory to the phone (which itself already has 6GB of physical RAM).
Samsung is the latest manufacturer to incorporate a virtual memory feature to its handsets after Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and Realme. Oppo plans to expand by up to 7GB the RAM of its phones with its own software update, for now available in the Middle East and Africa.
But don't expect a drastic change in phone speed. RAM is extremely fast compared to storage memory, so Android will only run less important and demanding apps from your new virtual memory, while games and other demanding apps will still rely on physical RAM.
